ON HER SIX Inspiration & My Favorite Quote!

Thank you so much to everyone who sent me messages, screenshots, and pictures of your copy of ON HER SIX.  Release day as a debut author was a lot of fun! I'm thrilled people are loving the story and the humor. I had a lot of fun writing it, so it makes me so happy that others are enjoying reading it.

Some people have already asked about the next book in the series.  I'm well underway with book two, which will feature Luke Calder, Ash's best friend and DEA teammate. This one is going to be a little different from ON HER SIX because all the teammates are together for the entire novel. Also, the "granny squad," as Ash called them, are back in action and make a number of appearances in book two.  I'm loving the dynamic so far. And what about Luke's love interest? Her name is Cassandra, and is a spitfire with a huge, giving heart.  That's all I'm going to say about book two for now!

I've been getting a lot of messages about how much you all are loving Rose and the rest of the older women from the 19th Street Patrol neighborhood watch. That's really special for me to hear. Every old lady I write has a piece of my grandmother in her.

My grandmother was a huge part of my life growing up. I spent a lot of time with her as both of my parents worked full-time to make ends meet. My grandma is crazy, spunky, funny, hot-headed, and caring. There is something so amazing about a women who is content--proud even--in who she is and doesn't let anyone ever dull her sparkle. She knows who she is and is true to that. I strive every day to be like her.  To have that kind of confidence.

We all have that one family member or friend who helps us see how important it is to be us no matter what. For me, it's my grandmother.

The woman has a smart mouth. It was so easy to write a character like Estelle because I could easily picture my grandmother saying a lot of what Estelle did. Her one liners in ON HER SIX still crack me up!  My grandmother--just like Rose--loves fiercely and lives for her family, so it was natural for me to translate that emotion onto the page. Maybel is a badass and uber protective of those she loves. My grandmother would sacrifice herself at the blink of an eye for her loved ones. And Celia. Good-hearted, sweet, innocent Celia. My grandmother is still proper and ladylike when necessary. There were plenty of times she had to remind me (non-too-gently) to get my butt in gear and act right.

For my favorite quote in ON HER SIX, I'm going with smart-mouthed Estelle. The woman had me chuckling so much while writing that I had trouble catching my breath.

Haha. That one quote says so much about Estelle and the story in general. There is suspense and action, but the elderly ladies of the neighborhood watch definitely keep things fun and interesting.

Thanks again to everyone for their support and best wishes! Keep the feedback coming!

xoxo,
